Is Swimming Advisable In Children After Bitten By A Bee?

My 2 year old was just stung by a bee at the pool. We removed the stinger and have iced it as well as given ibuprofen. She is not crying anymore and does not seem to be in pain. She wants to go back in the pool...will this aggregate the sting even more?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is not advisable to allow swimming in pool immediately following a bee sting , as the tissue at the bite site is showing acute inflammatory wheal and flare changes and susceptible to external infection very easily. Let a period of 24 hours elapse before the next swimming allowance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
