Is Taking Clindamycin Safe For Treatment Of Bronchitis?
Hi my name is Anna. And I am concerned because I have been prescribed Clindamycin for Bronchitis and a COPD Flare up.I am limited on what kind of antibiotics I can take, because I have a very bad allergic reaction to any form of Penicillin. And is Bronchitis and COPD considered a Bacterial Infection. All Labs have come back ab-normal
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. COPD is chronic progressive disease. And the most common cause for COPD worsening is infection. And to be more specific viral infection. This viral infection will cause secondary bacterial infection. So antibiotics are usually given in COPD worsening. So no harm in taking clindamycin. It is not penicillin group of antibiotic. So it will give you allergic reaction. I advice you to get done adult pulmonary vaccination with pneumpcoccal and influenza to prevent future lung infections and thus reduce COPD worsening s. You should also enroll in pulmonary rehabilitation program where chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercise are done. These will improve your lung functions and helps in COPD worsening.
