Is Taking Clonazepam Instead Of Diazepam For Essential Tremor Safe?

Hi currently taking half a 5mg Diazepam in the morning & one 5mg at night also one 20mg Pariet. Because after recently seeing a neurologist who confirmed I have mild case of esential tremor he has recommended to my GP that I go off the Diazepam & start on Clonazepam instead. I am concerned about changing medication because of the severe side effects I have had from previous medications prescribed. I also believe I do not now suffer from depression only Anxiety & stress mainly due to not being able to cope with my mother who has dementia & is in an Aged Care Facility because I feel guilty that I am unable to cope with her problems.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* The clonazepam and diazepam are of same group of medicines as
Benzodiazepines.

Difference is among duration of actions and others.
So continue the clonazepam for best possible results.

Take care.
