Is Taking Metoprolol ER Succinate Advisable Instead Of Metoprolol Tartrate?
My question is I have been on Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg and when visiting the doctor she changed me to the Metoprolol ER Succinate 25mgs once a day and I have been taking that and now she has increased it to 50 mgs twice a day but I am afraid to take it because my pressure has been low and within range. Which dosage should I be taking and should I take the Tartrate or the Succinate?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes you could take Metoprolol ER Succinate instead of Metoprolol Tartrate as directed by your doctor. Actually the active metabolite of both the drug is same (metoprolol). They would have similar action. However Metoprolol ER Succinate is slowly released & thus works for longer period of time by single use. Metoprolol tartate require repeated dosages twice or thrice a day. So you could take metoprolol succinate as advised by your doctor 50mg twice a day. However Blood pressure monitoring may be required as blood pressure may fall with increased dose.
Refer to your physician Hope this helps
