Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

I have read your description and understand your concern.

Symptoms which are mentioning does give an indication that you could be pregnant. It would be advisable to confirm it by means of urine pregnancy test and ultrasound scan to know how many weeks you are pregnant.

Abortion by means of pills is possible and can be safely undertaken when pregnancy is less than 12 weeks.
However, it is advisable to get it done under medical supervision.

A combination of 2 drugs Mifepristone and Misoprostol, is commonly used for such abortion.

Generally, 1 tablet of Mifepristone is to be taken orally, followed by 4 tablets of Misoprostol to be taken sublingual route (under the tongue). Intake of 4 tablets needs to be repeated twice at 3 hourly interval.
Following intake of these pills, bleeding with cramps results within 24 - 48 hours, and intermittent spotting might last up to 2 - 3 weeks.

It is also vital to do a follow up ultrasound scan after 15 days to confirm that the uterus is empty and abortion is successful.

If you fail to take these precautions and attempt something on your own, you can have life threatening complications such as severe uncontrolled bleeding, infection and incomplete abortion.

In about 4 to 10 % of cases, these pills might fail, leading to indication for surgical abortion.

However in most of the cases, when followed properly under medical guidance, it is safe and effective.

Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
