Is Taking Rosuvas For Lifetime Necessary?

My husband has started taking Rosuvas 10mg since 1 week(totl chol 287).
But heard from people that if statins have started once, we have to contunue for lifelong.
Is that true or we can stop once the cholestrol is dicreased?
Doctor also said his elevated cholestrol levels or because if jeans and not w.r.to food or anyother.
Please suggest.
