Is Taking Z-Pak Advisable To Treat Recurrent Fever, Fatigue And Cough?

Hi there. I am in a current holding pattern, have been to my doctor, and I am not sure where to go next. I am currently 31 weeks pregnant, so while I would normally ignore and wait to feel better, I feel like that is not the right thing to do with my little one.2 weekends ago, I went through a bout of recurrent low-grade fevers, general fatigue, loss of appetite, and some cough. It started on a Thursday, but continued through Sunday. I set a doctors appointment for Monday, but felt fine by then and cancelled. This whole routine started again Wednesday of this week. This time, including a fever that has now once spiked over the 100 degree mark. I went to the doctor yesterday and had a flu test run (negative) so he sent me home with a wait and see on Z-pack. I don't know whether to fill this and go ahead with it, or to just wait a little longer to see if it will clear again on its own.

Hi..

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain low grade fever along with malaise and loss of appetite can be most probably due to viral infection and as during pregnancy the immunity level of the lady is low, therefore chances of recurring infection and symptoms are high..
Although flu test came back negative, you need to get tested for other viral infections as bacterial infection seems less probable in present symptoms..
In case if viral infection is ruled out then taking Z-Pak that contains Azithromycin can be of no use as it can treat only bacterial infection..
I would suggest you to consult your gynaecologist or an Infectious medicine specialist and get evaluated and thorough clinical evaluation and blood tests can help..
As of now you can take acetaminophen to reduce fever and take a nutritious diet along with sufficient rest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
