Is Taking A Zostavax Shot Advisable For Prevention Of Shingles?

My PCP is suggesting that I take the zoster vaccine live (PF) subcutaneous injection for shingle prevention. A titer showed that I previously had chickenpox. However, I have reservations because of my reactions to the tetanus toxoid vaccine. Previously it was speculated that the mercury in the toxoid culture might have caused my reaction. What advice can you offer related to the zoster vaccination?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I recommend Zostavax shot to prevent shingles. The shingles vaccine shot can roughly reduce your chances of getting shingles. The vaccine contains a weakened chickenpox virus, which doctors call the varicella-zoster virus. It primes your immune system to defend against the disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
