Is The Feeling Of Foggy Brain Caused By Methotrexate Or Lowered Prednisone?

I have been diagnosed with RA and have been put on methotrexate 20mg a week and a tapering dose of prednisone .this was in April.I felt really good at first, much better in fact and heaps of energy and no pain .In the last two weeks ive felt whacked with no energy and a foggy brain feeling . Is this the methotrexate or the lowering of the prednisone and will it get better.

Hi,

This feeling can be due to disease flare due to tapering of steroids or can also be because of steroids as these may also cause sleep disturbances, anxiety or low energy levels.

Fresh anti CCP levels as well as CRP should be done to see the disease activity and if high titres are obtained a third DMARD like hydroxychloroquine may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
