Is The Lump After Greenstick Fracture In Childhood Leading To Rib Pain?

Hi, my daughter had a greenstick fracture of her rib when she was one year old, the Doctor at the time suggested leaving it to heal naturally - a lump formed in the area which he said was new bone growing around the greenstick fracture and was nothing to worry about. My daughter is now 17 and last night went to hospital as she was having pains in her rib - the Doctor said it was most probably pain from the fracture as it had possibly not healed properly. He advised against x rays and said she should take anti inflammatory drugs for the pain, and suggested the pain will be lifelong. Is this correct?
