Hello and welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.
This is not an uncommon finding. The possible explanations include:
1. wrong dates: sometimes the ovulation may be delayed than what is expected from the date of last menstrual period. Hence the baby is smaller than the expected as
pregnancy was conceived later than the normal date.
2. Missed abortion: here the baby is not alive and hence it looks smaller than normal. If the heart beat of the baby is visible then this is ruled out.
3. wrong dates: patient does not remember the dates correctly. Happens many times.
The remedy is just get a repeat scan after 2 weeks. If the baby grows by 2 weeks, that is if it becomes 8 weeks and its heart is seen then it is just wrong dates or delayed conception. In this case follow the dates of the
ultrasound. There is no harm to the baby.
Hope this was helpful.
Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
