Is There A Chance Of HIV Infection After Protected Sex With HIV Positive Person?

Hi - I had protected vaginal sex with an hiv positive girl. I have done hiv ag/ab test 7 weeks and 2 days after intercourse. Negative. How reliable is this test after 7 weeks? Do I need to do it again? The doctor said I am safe - no need to test again. Is this true?

Hello
Western blot is the most commonly used confirmatory test and detects antibodies to HIV antigens of specific molecular weights. Antibodies to HIV begin to appear within 2 WEEKS of infection ( contract period ) and the period of time between initial infection and development of detectable antibodies is rarely more than 3 MONTHS ( so in your case window period is accurate ).
As you mentioned that you got a test and it is NEGATIVE , so you are HIV free and don't take unnecessary tension .
Hope this will help you.
