Is There A Risk Of Life For A Fetus, If It Had Two Loop Around Its Neck?

i am in my 28th week of pregnancy, and my baby has 2 loops around his neck . what is the risk to his life and anyways its an ivf pregnancy so we have to go in for c section but i just want to know the risk to baby and should i expect premature delivery?

Hello and welcome,

The risk at 28 weeks for this finding is very small. As the baby moves inside the abdomen the loops may get disengaged. The major problem comes if these loops persist till delivery. At the time of labor when the head comes down, these loops may tighten and cause strangulation to the baby. As you are going for an elective C section this risk is not there.

Just keep a watch on the babies movements. If they are good [ at least 3 in one hour or 10 in 5-6 hours] then there is no need to worry. You may recheck with repeat scan after 2-3 weeks to see if the loops persist.
There is no need to worry as this is a finding in many babies.
