Is There A Speedy Process To Dissolve Sutures?

I delivered a baby 3 1/2 wks ago and had some vaginal tearing that the doctor repaired with dissolvable sutures. The sutures have still not dissolved and are causing me itching and discomfort. Is there a way to speed up the process of dissolving or could my MD possibly remove what is left?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The vaginal tear is managed by repair of the tear by sutures both dissolvable and indissolvable.
The sutures placed high up in the vaginal wall are dissolvable and those placed on the skin are indissolvable.
The vaginal tear usually extends up to the skin and the skin tear has to be repaired like a skin tear.
The indissolvable sutures are removed once the skin is repaired and it can take 8-10 days.
Once the skin repair is complete, the sutures can be taken out.
However, you can consult your gynaecologist for clinical assessment because sometimes long sutures or sutures not cut close inside the vaginal canal can also cause itching and irritation.

Thanks and take care
