Is There A Test To Determine If Chest Pain Is Due To An Anxiety Attack?
My husband past away in Sept...I had been his caregiver for 2 years. I had mild chestpain at night several times, I just relaxed and did breathing and fell asleep. I figured it was just end of day tension. Recently I had the same feeling but much worse. My Dr took a electrocardiogram, it showed a small heart attack.Went to cardiologist, passed stress test, echo cardiogram showed no blockages. Recommended exercise. Last night had same problem. I am thinking it is anxiety attack. Is there a test to determine that.
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, troponin I blood test is the answer of your question. Troponin I rises in heart attack. So if your chest pain is due to heart diseases then troponin I will be high. But if it is due to anxiety then troponin I will be normal. So get done troponin I test at the time of chest pain. In my opinion, your chest pain is mostly due to stress and anxiety because your all cardiac reports are normal. So consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions. Try to identify stressor in your life and start working on its solution. You may need anxiolytic drugs (propranolol and flunarizine combination) too. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm.
