Is There Any Correlation Between Elevated Triglyceride Levels And Atrial Septal Defect?
My 18 year old daughter just got a lab report showing borderline high triglycerides. She is very active - a varsity basketball and track athlete throughout 4 years of highschool and currently weight and endurance training as well as religiously working on her shot and ball handling for her upcoming ncaa III basketball team. She was born with an atrial septal defect and was released from cardiac care at age 8 with no treatment for her asd. She has asthma and eczema. She had a mild case of mono last fall. She is otherwise very healthy and eats very healthy. I cook and we make lunches - not much in the way of processed foods , certainly not on a daily basis. She eats fruits and vegetables and fiberous foods. Neither her father nor I have ever had any cholesterol problems of any kind, but the doctor says it is genetic and to watch it with diet and exercise. With someone that excersizes so extremely that her periods are irregular and with her healthier than most teenage diet, what can I advise her to do? Is there any correlation between the asd and this triglyceride issue? oh - she s 5 7 and ways about 128
Elevated triglyceride can occur in case of heart disease.Any other cause of cardiac dysfunction other than Asd should be ruled out. The values of LDL and HDL cholesterol has not been mentioned. Diet to increase HDL can be followed. Aggressive exercise should be avoided since you have mentioned that your daughter has a history of irregular periods.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
