my brain mri says mild volume loss with ex vacuo dilatationof the ventricules.no suspicious masses or distinct deep white matterlesions identified.no intracranial hemorrage, midline shiftor focal mass effect. no acute infarct demonstrated. no abnormal skull signals. two tiny hemangiomas within left posterior frontal skull. Impression: Mild volume loss. No focal intracranial pathology demonstrated. I am 50. My question is does mild volume loss indicate dementia?
Mild volume loss with dilatation of the ventricles are due to brain parenchyma atrophy. This is generally age related finding and it doesn't require any treatment. Mild volume loss doesn't indicate dementia. It is age related finding. However, many cases of dementia are associated with volume loss of brain, but vice versa is not true.
