Is There Any Need To See A Pulmonologist After Tested Positive On A TB Skin Test?

Hi, I test positive on a TB skin test. I took chest X-RAY and it states the heart is normal and the chest is clear and for the the impression it says no acute cardiopulmonary process demonstrated. However, my doctor sent me a referral to see a pulmonologist. Do you any idea why? BB

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
That's the common referral we get from the general physicians. See being TB skin positivity does not imply TB disease. But question may be more definite if you would mention the size of skin reaction. In a skin reaction positive patient if TB symptoms develops like fever, cough, weight loss, anorexia, night sweat along with chest x-ray abnormality and sputum positive for AFB then we usually treat the patient for TB. So the result of skin reaction positivity is to be enjudged in the proper clinical context and many other factors. If you dont have all those which I have mentioned you dont need to be treated for TB.
Thank You.
