Is There Any Other Alternate Medicine For Mogadon For Insomnia?

I have been taking HALCION Tablets for the past 12 years as a sleeping aid and I have found it to work reasonably well.Initially I took 1 per night but have now been taking two per night for about the past 7-8 years. My Pharmacist now tells me that Pfizer have recently advised that they will no longer produce the drug. My GP has given me a script for Mogadon (the chemist supplies a generic version. I started with one tablet but it did nothing. I have now been taking two tablets every night for about the past 3 weeks. I find I can sleep quite well for about 3 maybe 4 hours, but am then wide awake again. I am looking to see what else might be available that will give me much more satisfactory sleep/rest. I find I am just not able to sleep through the day, so that is not the problem. I am a male 64 years of age, with some chronic ailments. What would be your advice Michael Murphy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Insomnia is a problem with sleep. People with insomnia have trouble falling or staying asleep. Most people with insomnia need no test. Your doctor will probably be able to tell what is wrong just by talking to you. Before you use medicine for insomnia you should know the underlying cause of insomnia so you should not just take medicine because it can cause you to become addicted to the medicine and you can not stop those medicines due to withdrawal syndrome. So you should talk to your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
