Is There Any Relation Between H.pylori Infection And Liver Disease?

I am on 40 mgs of omneprozole twice a day. I have been for at least 4+ years, since i was diagnosed and treated for H-Pylori. At my recent bloodwork, the only flag was my ALT at 106. My PCP had me come in for more bloodwork on Friday to check my liver. I do not have those results, yet. I have low energy for 4 months. Being that my stomach was partially eaten away from the h-pylori, my gastroenterologist put me on the omneperzole. Knowing that the stomach and the liver are both part of my gastointestinal tract, could there be a correlation between the stomach meds and the liver?? I do not suffer from GERD or heartburn or acid indigestion. I am 5 5 1/2 , 150 lbs. active in sports and outdoor activities, eat a healthy balanced diet and am 58 years old. What might be happening to me?

There is some evidence to suggest that H. pylori infection may be associated with certain liver diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). However, the exact nature of this association is still not fully understood and requires further investigation.

Regarding your medication, omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the production of stomach acid. While there is no direct evidence to suggest that PPIs cause liver damage, some studies have suggested that long-term use of PPIs may be associated with an increased risk of liver disease. However, the exact nature of this association is still unclear and requires further investigation.

Your elevated ALT levels could be due to several factors, including liver damage, medications, or other medical conditions. Further tests, such as liver function tests and imaging studies, may be needed to determine the cause of your elevated ALT levels.

Given your symptoms of low energy, there may be an underlying medical condition contributing to your symptoms. It would be important to discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider and undergo any additional testing or evaluation as needed to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
