Is There Any Relationship Between Fatty Liver And Liver Cirrhosis?
I had a CT scan showing that I have Cirrhosis of the liver. I am not a drinker, nor have I been. Also had a EGD/Colonscopy 2 days later, one thing found was esophageal varices. I have been anemic for past 6 plus months. I am a diabetic II and have been for 10 plus years. Could I have a fatty liver causing the cirrhosis of the liver? Thank you for your assistance. Bobbie G. I am 75 years old.
According to one of the statistical report i know , 30 % liver cirrhosis cause unknown , and 25% cirrhosis due to alcohol. In addition there are many other causes of cirrhosis . esophageal varices are possibly the result of cirrhosis.
Fatty liver is of two types . one due to alcohol drink , and another type is non alcoholic fatty liver . non alcoholic fatty liver could be due to a number of causes , and one of these is obesity . this can be associated with type 2 Diabetes also. some of the patients with non alcoholic fatty liver may proceed to develop cirrhosis in due course.
Hope this answer your concern to some extent .
Thank you
