Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is There Any Relationship Between Gluten Intolerance And Thyroid Disease?
I have Hashimoto s disease...been on medication for about 2 years. my lab levels are fine but my energy level is completely shot, i m very irritable/down, and my thyroid area hurts quite a bit. my thyroid area has been hurting for over 2 months now. I recently had an ultrasound and more bloodwork done, and a physical exam. All came back normal. what do I do now? I keep reading about gluten as a potential problem but my doctor says diet is not an issue. I don t know what to do but I am very frustrated about all this.
Both are immune mediated disease and if you have one immunological disease like gluten sensitivity, there is high chance for developing other immune mediated conditions like autoimmune thyroiditis and diabetes. As the ultrasound is normal there is no thyroid swelling.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
