Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is There Interaction Between Effexor XR And Benadryl?
My husband has been taking Effexor XR 150MG SID for over 12 years and is getting to the point where he has no energy, cannot sleep, no motivation and lack of interest in anything. Recently, because of allergies, he has had to take Benadryl and I am wondering if that is interfering? Also, is there anything over the counter that can be taken to help him sleep because I think that is another large issue.
There is no significant interaction between Effexor – XR and Benadryl. Benadryl does not affect the therapeutic response of Effexor – XR. But better alternatives for allergy are available. Advice 1. Continue Effexor – XR as suggested by your doctor 2. Stop Bennadryl 3. Levocetirizine 5 mg (tablet Vozet) per oral daily as needed for allergy 4. Tablet Zolfresh 10 mg (zolpidem 10 mg) per oral at bed time for 30 days for sleep induction 5. Consult a psychiatrist for follow up Thanks
