Is Thyroid Sonogram Advisable With Reference To This Thyroid Function Tests?

I just had some routine labs drawn and my TSH came back low at 0.01 and then they ran a T4, and T3 which both came back normal but my Thyroglobulin antibodies were high at 54. They now want me to have a Thyroid sonogram. What could they be looking for?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
Incomplete data: Age, gender, associated symptoms, etc.
Yes, thyroid sonogram is advisable.
The given thyroid function tests including the HIGH Thyroglobulin antibody are suggestive of 'Sub-clinical Hyperthyroidism which might have been caused by Graves' disease.
Graves' disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). Although a number of disorders may result in hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease is a common cause.
You have been advised thyroid sonogram to find out if the thyroid gland is enlarged (multinodular goiter) and is most useful in people who can't undergo radioactive iodine uptake, such as pregnant women.
Hope I could answer your query.
