Is Triglyceride Level Of 52 Normal?

I had my yearly physical. HDL 57, Triglycerides 52, LDL 99, Sugar 82. My question is my triglycerides. That number is extremely low. Is that good or bad? I am a distance runner. Just completed my first ultra in the mountain for 9 hours. I am 54 years old. I take no med other than vitamins and supplements, eat healthy.

Low triglyceride levels could be due to low fat diets. Since you are a distance runner, your fat stores might be getting exhausted to meet high energy needs of your body especially if you have a low fat intake . It can also occur if you have fat malabsorption syndrome which causes dietary fat to pass undigested in stools without getting absorbed in the body. An overactive thyroid also leads to low triglyceride levels. If you are not having any of these medical conditions then check supplements you are taking which might be responsible for lowering triglycerides like fish oil supplements. Such a level may not harm unless it is due to malnutrition or underlying medical conditions.
