Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
if my grandson has been tested preliminary for tb and it came positive but his chest xray came back clear could he be contagious to be around other people/pregnant woman. However they are repeating his blood test to make sure it is not a false positive and will not get the result before three more days.
As per my clinical experience, usually the chances of contagiousness depends upon the type of tuberculosis of the organ involved. As if there is cavitary lesion in the lung with expectoration, the sputum is highly contagious to surrounding personnel as well as pregnant women. If it is non cavitary lung tuberculosis, extra pulmonary tuberculosis as cervical or inguinal glands, abdomen or CNS tuberculosis, it is not contagious type.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
