Is Tylenol The Treatment For Possible Strep Throat With Runny Nose, Cough With Phlegm, Vomiting And Fever In A Child?

Hi, my 2 year old girl got sick this pass tuesday night, she vomited and since then has a fever ranging from 99 to 103, she also has had a bad cough with a lot of phlegm and runny nose. We ve been alternating childrens tylenol and motrin. Is it normal for the fever to last this long? We took her to the pediatrician on wednesday, and they diagnosed with her a virus. She tested negative for strep throat. Thanks,

Hello,
It is usual to have the Viral infection lasting for more than a week or ten 10 days.
As you have ruled out Streptococcal throat infection it is better to
1. Monitor her temperature and give analgesics like tylenol or motrin as prescribed by your treating doctor.
2.Use nasal Decongestants- help alleviate nasal congestion, sinus pressure and ear pressure.
3.Use Antihistamines

hope this helps.
