Is Vaping An Electronic Cigarette Advisable Post Tonsillectomy?

Is it ok to use an ecig after tonsillectomy? I normally smoke a combo of regular cigarettes and a vape ecig. Could this help keep the back of the throat moist? And how about vape juice that doesn t have nicotine in it? Part of it is just the motion, I ve been finding myself absent-minded chewing on a pen

Hello,

I agree that e-cigarettes are not as harmful as regular cigarettes and they do not produce smoke. However, e-cigarettes are not free of nicotine. Nicotine consumptiom after surgery may hamper the blood supply to the area of surgery. The surgical wound needs adequate blood supply for efficient healing. Without adequate blood supply, the would healing will be compromised and it may lead to further complications. So I would advise not to use even e-cigarettes till the surgical would is completely healed.

Nicotine free vapes do not have adverse effects that nicotine may produce. However, there is still active inhalation of hot vapor through mouth which gives throat hit or kick. I am sorry but that may also not be healthy for you at this stage as heating of the area soon after surgery may cause increase in swelling and sometimes the swelling becomes so large that it may cause trouble in breathing leading to life threatening condition.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. I wish you get recovered soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
