Is Washing Vaginal Area With Soap Recommended After Abortion?

Hi. I just recently had a second trimester termination earlier today due to my baby have many medical complications. Just have two questions. When is it ok to wash my vaginal area with soap and water? Also, is it ok for me to poop now or is it too soon?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is no reason why you should not use soap to wash your vaginal area.

However, a small percentage of women do find that some soaps especially the highly scented variety can cause irritation.

If you are prone to recurrent attacks of cystitis, then soap may make this problem worse.

However, if you have no soreness or irritation when using soap, then you can use it freely.

Also, you can go for defecation after abortion, if you want. There is nothing to worry too much.

Here are some advice for you to follow:

Drink lots of fluids.
Stay off work for a few days.
Take vitamins, eat healthy food, and try to sleep well.
Take the antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor up to complete course.
No exercise for two weeks.
Don't lift any heavy thing for few days.
