Is Weak Hearing And Ringing Sound In Left Ear Concerning?

About 10 days ago, when I woke up and went outside, I noticed that my left ear seems blocked and hearing is weak. Also, later in the day, I noticed slight ringing in my left ear and every time I am in a quiet place, I hear the ringing sound in my left ear. Please advise what could be the condition and is there anything very serious with it?

Hello,

You are experiencing ringing in the left ear since 10 days, you are also having hearing problems in the left ear. Ringing in the ears is caused by tinnitus that may cause hearing loss if neglected. It is commonly caused due to exposure to very loud noise (noise induced hearing loss). Other medical conditions that can cause it are ear infections, sinus infections, partial or complete perforation of ear drum (tympanic membrane), thyroid abnormalities, thyroid problems in women, Ménière’s disease, brain tumors, etc.

Ringing in the ear is a cause of concern, you are suggested to get yourself clinically examined by an otolaryngologist/ ENT, who will check if ear wax is blocking the ear canal, he will rule out or detect any ear infection, sinus problem, etc., so that treatment can be started at the earliest. You will have to go through some blood works, imaging tests, audiometry test before treatment is started. Treatment depends on the cause, you will be given conservative treatment or hearing aids, etc., or may be suggested surgery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
