Is Weakness And Locking Up Of A Leg Suggestive Of Muscle Strain?

About a week ago, my legs were at the strongest they have ever been. I am a high school athlete. Then, last tuesday, I was playing squash and my leg suddenly gave out and locked up. It was difficult to put weight on it and there was limited range of motion. The main areas of pain were where my hamstring meets my glute on my right leg, then also around the hip area on my right leg. After about a week the pain was minimal and today I tried to do some agility, the same thing happened where my right leg locked up and pain ensued. I am not sure if this is due to a muscle strain, hip, or possible tendon injury.

Hello,

When you said about the range I was wondering which joint you are mentioning hip or the knee? If the knee ROM is limited and the pain is in the thigh back side I think this should be related to ligaments.

Because at this point only we get to about the effects over the range of motion of the knee. Any ligament injury will lead to reduced ROM in the knee and pain in the back of the thigh.

But still we need to have a clinical examination post which we can guide better. I will advise to take up an orthopedist opinion and please provide the history accurately so he can help you better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
