Is Weight Gain A Side Effect Of Bilateral Oophorectomy?

I would like to know if weight gain is a side effect of a bilateral oophorectomy. I had it done at the end of June this year and have gained eight to ten pounds since. is this trend going to continue or if I work really hard will I be able to lose the weight. I did return to the gym after six weeks of surgery but wonder if the weight will just increase anyway. Please reply

Hello,

The ooforectomy may have caused you to increase weight. Being inactive for long due to surgery may have caused you to put in weight. Also, the absence of hormones contribute to it. Continuing the normal life, physical activity and diet can help you to be your own self.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
