Is Weight Gain Normal After Abortion?

Hello, I had an abortion 5 months ago and started a hormonal form of birth control shortly thereafter. Since that time, my weight increased significantly and I cannot loose it not matter what I do. I exercise daily, eat a balanced diet, and am overall a fairly active person. Could this still be lingering hormones from the pregnancy? I was about 7 weeks when I terminated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The increasing weight isn't much related to previous abortion. The hormones of pregnancy are back to normal since you have 5 months since termination. The increased weight may be related to taking hormone contraception pills but it stops from gaining after first months. Please check your diet and try to lower the calories.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
