Itching All Over Hands, Feet, Stomach, Back, Legs, Chest, On Prednisone. What To Do?

Hi, I have been itchy for about a month. ALL OVER (hands, feet, stomach, back, legs, chest). There are no raised bumps, but I scratch, it s really red, then turn purplish the next day. I had a steroid shot on Sunday...it helped for that day. I m on predisone and a itching cream but I am still very itchy.

Hello,
Thank you for your query. Itching all over body could be the symptom of multiple conditions. Considering your long history of itching including almost all of the body i would like to put forward a common diagnosis of scabies. It is a infestation by mite into your skin. It is pretty easy to treat. Firstly, launder your clothing, beddding, etc in warm water. Enquire about the similar problem in any of your family member as it is a contagious condition, thus may need treatment too. Your dermatologist will prescribe you with oral drug called ivermectin along with local application of cream containing permethrin or any other antiscabetic medication. Apart from these for itching you will need antihistamics (Hyroxyzine etc). Hope you will get better soon.
