Hello,
Herpes infections are one of the common viral infections of the eye. Herpes infections are known to remain dormant and get activated when the body immunity is decreased.
The treatment for herpes infections is by antiviral drugs like Acyclovir in the form of oral drugs and eye ointments.
However treatment is not required throughout life as you have mentioned here. The treatment is required only in acute phase and if the disease is recurrent prophylaxis by oral drugs is indicated for 3-6 months.
Thank you
