Joint Pain, Body Ache, Chesty Cough, Shortness Of Breath. Diagnosed As Bronchitis. Taking Medication, Breathing Problem Persisting. Advice?

I am a 55 year old female with history of viral type symptoms of general body aches & joint pain 2 weeks ago. Febrile for 4 days & tight chesty unproductive cough. No head cold or sore throat.. Went o see GP 4 days ago due to developing a severe exploratory wheeze & shortness of breath on exertion. Was diagnosed with acute bronchitis & commenced on augmenting duo forte BD & decreasing doses of prednisone, 10mg BD for 3 days 5mg BD for 3 days & 5 mg daily for 3 days. Only sight improvement in wheeze but cough & shortness of breath persisting. I have woken the last 2 nights with sweating & shortness of breath. Should the antibiotics & prednisone have taken effect by now or should I be reviewed again. No chest X-ray has been attended

Hi dear

Welcome to the Health care magic.

With your discription I can make out that you are suffering with allergic bronchitis /Bronchopneumonia .

Treatment line you are getting is ok, requirs little modification.
Except the one more antibiotic which is effective against the community acquired infection like mycoplasma should also be added.

Some nebulized medication may help you in breathing.

Minimum possible Investigation required are CBC,ESR,CXR, Absloute eosinophil Count, Blood sugar, ECG etc to evaluate you better.

As you have started sweating and difficulty in breathing especially in midnight, considering your age, your heart should also be evaluated.

Your review is very important by physician and by cardiologist.
And treatment should also be done little aggressively to avoid any future complication.

Hope your query is answered and you will be better after a revised investigation and treatment.

Thanks
