Landed On A Block. Has Hematoma In Tibia. Serious?
My son fell (hard) and landed on a sharp corner of a block of solid wood; he has (what looks like) a huge hematoma located on the very top of tibia/ tibial plateau with swelling all around. I iced, elevated, and ace bandaged it, but no change. He s walking, but with a limp; and he can straighten it but can t really bend it. Could it be something more serious? At what point should I stop home treating him, and bring him to be seen? Thank you, Susie
Hi whenever there is injury to bone it causes hematoma.in many cases it subsides by its own.within few days.if the hematoma is bigger enough it should be treated with broad spectrum antibiotic for five days and a chymoral forte twice daily and hot water compressors can cure the condition .if still no response go to a surgeon for incision and drainage
