Last Stages Of Copd, Chest Pain, Morphine Drip

hi, my father has end stage copd . Can barely move and is currently in hospital after chest pains. He is due home tomorow and has been fitted with a morphine drip which a nurse will visit to check each day. He is coming home in an ambulance and having a hospital bed. No one will say how long he has. Is death imenant or could he go on suffering for months or even years?
