im 18, for the last couple of month my period has been late. I use to start in the middle of the month and now its either the end of the month or the beginning of the next month, im a little worried about what this could mean, Im 5'1 weight 110. I just want to know what is happening, if i should be worry or if i should go see my doctor for an examination. thank you
I am sorry to hear about these late periods and all the inconveniences this has caused you.
Menses don't follow calendar dates but rather have a number of days after which they show up. It is generally accepted that periods lasting 21-35days are normal. I will suggest that you get to calculate the interval between your menses in terms of days and not the monthly period like end or beginning and compare the over time to see what the differences are if there is for real any.
With a poor mastery of menses like this, please consider getting on an appropriate birth control method if you are sexually active and don't desire to have kids now. Also, condom use prevent you against STDs.
I hope this helps answer your query. feel free to follow up when you have gathered the requested information for more advice. I would suggest that you stay relaxed as I feel that you are not really having any problem at this time.
I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD
