Hi there,
Thanks for writing in. I read your mail with
I am a medical specialist with an additional degree in Cardiology. Seventy percent of my cardiac patients are diabetic. Yes, everyone, specially you should be worried about
Diabetes Mellitus Type II or persons who have some symptoms which you have:
1. Family history of diabetes. Some, contributory factors in our genes is definitely there.
2. I do not your age but Maturity Onset of Diabetes in Young (MODY) is well known entity.
3. Those who have symptoms which could be suggestive of diabetes like "extremely thirsty".
Best course for you to consult a doctor who would do a physical examination and order following investigations: a) Fasting Blood Sugar b) Urine examination for protein, sugar and microscopy c) Glycosylated Hemoglbin (
HbA1C). These investigations will help you in excluding diabetes mellitus. Repeat every six month at least fasting blood sugar so that latent diabetes (if it were to manifest) overt now.
Best Wishes
