Lichen Planus, Around Back Molar, Canker Sores. Switched To Soft Toothbrush. What Else Must Be Done?

I was told by a dentist that I may have lichen planus. It is located near and around the back molar and goes a bit up the jaw line behind the molar. My understanding is that it is just something I will have to deal with. I have switched to a soft tooth brush for that area. It comes and goes. I can also get rather large canker sores in that same area. Other that treating the symptoms do I just need to plan on dealing with this from now on?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Cause of occurrence of canker sores has to be evaluated initially and treated accordingly.

Avoid spicy ,allergic foods.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Discontinue smoking ,tobacco or pan chewing if you practice any.

Antibiotics causing allergy has to be avoided.

Apply topical steroid on the affected area.

First of all be stress free,as the condition like lichen planus is seen mostly in stressed person.Therefore be stress free.

Lichen planus is an autoimmune disease,therefore it involves care and proper periodic treatment on exacerbation.

Corticosteroids is the treatment administered nowadays.
Avoid spicy food products and stress.

you can continue using soft tooth brush and maintain good oral hygiene.

Apply corticosteroids locally upon consulting your dentist.

Always remember to be stress free.It is curable.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

As mentioned by you that you are having lichen planus around your last tooth,
The most common factor of occurence of lichen planus, i would suggest you to avoid stress and take complete rest.
Topical steroids can be applied.
Take a course of antioxidants.
Take lukewarm saline and antispetic mouthwash rinses.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.
