Lipoma On Left Thigh Above Knee, Numbness. MRI And Biopsy Scheduled. Treatment?

I have a large lipoma ? on my left outer thigh, just above my knee -- the lipoma has cause numbness in this area. I am deeply concerned. My primary doctor has made me appointment with a surgeon. what steps will be taken ? a MRI , and possible a biopsy? my primary md stated it was about the size of a football. any input would greatly be appreciated.

There are a few things you need to tell here.How long has been the swelling been there,any associated symptoms other than numbness?Does the swelling feel hard or soft or firm.
A lipoma is a benign condition and can present in any part of the body(except brain).Its usually soft or firm,variable size and mobille to certain extent when palpable.
However since you have been referred to a surgeon,he would be in aposition to diagnose the problem.
Yes, a possibility of getting a FNAB(biopsy) and a ultrasound or MRI does exists.
