Low B12. Had Esophagectomy For High Grade Dysplasia. Will There Be Any Long Term Effects On The Body ?
Hello, 3 1/2 yrs ago i had an esophagectomy for high grade dysplasia...I'm 61 yrs old and recently found out my B12 is very low 142 . My family physician has been giving me one shot a week plus i'm on supplements. I'm worried about the longterm effects on my body. I didn't have a family Doctor when i had the surgery and live in a small city where they had been doing this surgery for a short period of time. I'm really not sure if i got a shot after the surgery..I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Your Vitamin B12 deficiency is not related to your surgical procedure , however , it may be related to dietary deficiencies that you might have developed due to esophagectomy.
It wouldn't be a right thing for me to comment upon on Vitamin B12 Deficiency without seeing the reports.
If you have nutritional cause then , injection supplement once a weel for 4 weeks, followed by once a month , with Folic acid supplement will build back your Hemoglobin.
Also , ask your doctor for de-worming.
Please write to us with reports , in case you want to know anything more.
Stay Healthy.
