Lump In The Groin. Had Aortabifemoral Graft. Suffered Thrombosis. Severe Pain In The Foot. Suggestions?

At the beginning of 2008 I had an Aortabifemoral graft however I noticed a lump in my groin around the bifemoral section of the graft. I went to my GP who sent me straight up to emergency. I was in hospital for eight days and was administered antibiotics before they decided to remove the graft. Since the graft was removed I have been back twice within about a month of the op with a Thrombosis. I have been out of hospital for just over a week after the last op and I now have excrutiating pain in my foot, any suggestions?

Hi there,

I understand your concerns. Having an aortobifemoral graft can be a major procedure and the chances of having complications are also very high. I understand your anxiety about the whole process and that you have been going through a lot lately. Thrombosis is not an uncommon complication of the procedure after removal and hospitalization is necessary. I think pain management with a good palliative care specialist or a pain medicine specialist should help. I hope this answers your question, however you should check with your insurance if this is going to be covered.

Take care and have a lovely day!
