Lump Under Left Ear, Pressure, Bumps At The Back Of Tongue. Hurts To Swallow Saliva. What Could It Be?

I am a 60 year old woman also a former smoker. I have smoked on and off for the last 15 years. I noticed a lump under my left ear about a year ago and did not pay any attention to it because it did not bother me. Now I have a pressure in the left ear along with small bumps in the very back of my tongue. It feels like something is caught in my throat. I believe the lump under just under my jaw on the left side is swallen nodes. I have no insurance and am waiting for Obama Care to kick in so that I can get to the Dr. in January but am driving my self really crazy now thinking about it because of the feelings of something caught in me throat. I dont have a proble swallowing food or drink just normal swallowing seems to give me a little difficulty.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
Lymph node under the ear will not cause any pressure inside the ear.
The small bumps at the very back of your throat arranged in a V pattern are probably taste buds.
Lumps under the jaw are probably submandibular lymph nodes. They are swollen due to infections in the mouth, sinuses.
Swallowing is easy when there is something to swallow. Simply swallowing without anything in the mouth is usually very difficult.
I dont think you have anything to worry but see a doctor soon to rule out a problem.
regards, Dr Kishori
