Menopausal. Took Hormone Replacement Therapy. Currently Bleeding Since A Month. Reason?
I am 55 yrs. old, have been through menopause 2 1/2 yrs. I went through hormone replacement for one year, which ended March 2013. My dad passed away July 16th, and on August 16 I started having a full blown period. I am still bleeding and went to my regular doctor today, she suggested I go to a GYN. and get a pap smear, since I have not had one in 2 years. So is this a normal thing to have after stress and also have hormone replacement therapy for a year. I went to the OB/GYN doctor today, so we have gotten me straightened out.
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. It is very important to consult a gynaecologist for post menopausal bleeding because after menopause any type of bleeding needs to be investigated and treated accordingly. There are many reason like polyp, endometrial atrophy, endometrial cancer, hormonal therapy and some medication. The cause of menopausal bleeding rule out by history, physical examination and some test. Good luck. Regards Dr. Richa
