Menopause, Normal Pap Smear, Pain And Spotting During Intercourse

i am a 54 y/o female , through menopause for two years now. I had a perfectly normal pap smear two months ago, and have no other female problems. Tonight after having intercourse, I experienced some bright red spotting. I also had experienced some minor pain on the inner left side of the vagina during penetration in the missionary position, however after switching positions, all seemed ok .

Hello,
The most likely cause for the spotting is trauma to the vaginal wall as the surfaces become drier during and after menopause making penetration traumatic. You could make it easier by application of lubricants during the process. Yet, it would be better if you have your consultant have a look for proper opinion and to exclude any other cause. Please take adequate fluids and healthy diet. Hope your query has been answered. Wish you good health.
