Hi doctor,i gone through abortion on sep 24 2012 from then onwards i was getting light bleeding that lasts for 2 or 3 days. before i used to get heavy(perfect) periods in quantity and time.and now recently i have to get my period on may 16 2013 but i didnt get till date that is may 23 2013.i got the symptoms of period on may17 and 18 but it got disappeared.i took pregnancy test yesterday that is on may 22 and it came as negative,i was using folic acid tablets from last 20 days of 400mcg.can you please tell me what will be the problem.
Hello, thanks for using health care magic If i did understand, you didn't see your period on the day you were expecting (i.e. may 16) and u did not see it even up to the 23rd of May.
You did the right thin in trying to rule out pregnancy by doing a pregnancy test. Pregnancy test only gives a satisfactory negative value only when the test is carried out after the expected date of menses and repeated in a week's time to give another n negative value for conclusion. However, pregnancy is not the only cause of a delayed or absent menses.
Other possible causes include; -Uterine synechia, -Infections -Stress and too much exercise.
What you should do is retake the pregnancy test and meet a gynecologist for appropriate management. Hope this helps you
