The cysts themselves that you describe don t sound worrisome, as they are almost certainly benign. However, it does sound like she may have something called polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD). This is a very common hormonal disorder which often causes irregular periods, or missed periods. It is a complicated disease, but on a simple level, it can be described as an excess of certain hormones like estrogens and androgens which disrupt her natural menstrual cycles so she doesn t ovulate regularly, causing ovarian cysts and and irregular cycles, and sometimes it can therefore be difficult to get pregnant. It is usually easily treated by using birth control pills to control cycles, and if she wants to get pregnant, there are other ways to manipulate the cycles so she can ovulate and get pregnant. Medications like metformin, progesterone, and clomid can be used, and she will need to talk to her doctor so she can decide how best she can treat it. It is closely related to obesity and the risk of developing diabetes, so proper diet, exercise, and weight loss can often cure the disease as well. She really needs to talk to her doctor so she can properly care for this. With proper care, most women with PCOD can get pregnant without too much of a problem.
