Missed Periods. History Of Having Irregular Periods With Good Exercising Habit. Not Pregnant. Guide

I am 5ft 3 inches, 109lbs and 19yrs old. I haven't had my period in a while (very stressful yr at college last yr) I skipped my period Jan-may then had it may June July and haven't had it Aug sept and now working on Oct. I was wondering what is wrong? I know without a doubt that I'm not pregnant. I exercise regularly and my eating habits aren't the best, normally 1,000-1,200Cal a day but I'm trying to increase to 1,400.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

From the provided information I already see at least 3 causes for the irregular menstrual cycle: stress, malnutrition and possibly strenuous exercise.

But in all probability these could just be contributing factors to a pre-existing condition. I would advise a blood investigation to check on hormonal levels and an ultrasound examination of your abdomen and pelvis to rule out/diagnose any conditions that could be causing such a presentation.

It would be best to consult a doctor at your earliesr convenience. Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

OBGYN Dr. Sree Gouri SR's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Irregularity in menstrual cycles can occur due to many causes.
Decreased frequency of the cycles is called hypomenorrhea.
In your case the possible causes for hypomenorrhea are :
- Hormonal imbalance due to stress and strain.
- Decreased calorie intake can lead to anemia and hypomenorrhea.
-Under weight can affect the hormonal levels.
For more details : http://srsree.blogspot.com/2013/11/hypomenorrhea-part-1.html

So, consult gynecologist once and get evaluated.
If she recommends go for ultrasound and thyroid profile once.
Then with her advice you can go for tablets to induce withdrawal bleeding.
By improving nutrition possibly your next cycles may get regularized.
Take care.
